Told ya so: Anorthosis shocks Romanians
By: Ian Rose | August 16th, 2007This is the first in a one-part series in which I am right about anything. Anorthosis Famagusta, quickly becoming my favorite side in the Mediterranean, has made a huge step toward the next step of the UEFA Cup with a 3-1 away win over Romanian opponents CFR Cluj. It’s a pretty huge win for Anorthosis. They move to the home leg with not only a 2-goal lead, but three away goals, and it will be an uphill battle for Cluj. To put this in some perspective, Romania’s Liga I is currently the 10th-ranked league in UEFA, and Cyprus sits in twenty-eighth. This could well be the upset of the round.
In other “Know Your Minnow” news, Rapid Vienna also took a huge away win, 3-0 over Dinamo Tbilisi of Georgia. Great work to both sides. Keep it up, boys.

Nah, no money on it. Even with the newfound opportunities of sports gambling that now surround me in the UK, I’m just too damned cheap. That, and I’m wrong 94% of the time, which means I lose a lot. Still, Viva Famagusta. I want a shirt.
