Sorry, Martha. There were obviously some matches I didn’t cover. Fiorentina’s draw with AEK Athens was one. Bobo has been quite the UEFA Cup star this year – I really didn’t think he still quite had it in him, but I have to admit my error. If it’s any consolation, I also didn’t cover Atletico-Aberdeen, which is probably the match I cared the most about, mostly because it would only have really been a story if it WASN’T a Madrid shutout win.

What, no love for the Viola? MOTM performance from Bobo, apparently, though I’ll have to take UEFA.com’s word for it, since the streams all denied me.

That could be. I think their early schedule certainly helps them in the early qualifying rounds, when they are mid-season and everyone else is waiting to start domestically. This might be the opposite. Still, I’m really surprised at the Russian performances at home. I thought they might fall apart in the knockouts, but I guess it doesn’t take too long to get rusty.

I wonder whether the league schedule of the Scandinavian and Russian leagues puts them at a disadvantage? In Russia the league ended over two weeks ago and the Russian teams, who look to be good UEFA Cup material, start to struggle. Rosenborg were ripped apart by Chelsea yesterday etc.
