Early results: Bolton take shock point in Munich

By: Ian Rose | November 8th, 2007

The early matches of UEFA Cup group stage day 2 are over, and there are some real shocks. Bayern Munich, nearly everyone’s favorite for the Cup title, dropped their first points at home today, as Bolton shocked them with a 2-2 draw. It’s the third draw in four matches of the Megson era at Bolton, and although the Wanderers aren’t winning, they aren’t losing so much either, and that’s definitely a step. A road point against Bayern is a good result for them. In other news, Galatasaray lost at home today to Helsingborgs in an equally shocking result. It’s been a good start for the Russians today, with Zenit St. Petersburg winning at Larisa, and Spartak winning at home over Bayer Leverkusen. The third Russian side, Locomotiv Moscow, has just kicked off in Aberdeen. (Go Dons!). Great work by Spurs taking an away win in Tel Aviv.

Here are the scores so far:

Bayern Munich 2-2 Bolton
Galatasaray 2-3 Helsingborgs
Hapoel Tel Aviv 0-2 Tottenham
Larisa 2-3 Zenit St. Petersburg
Rennes 1-1 Brann
Spartak Moscow 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen

I can’t beleive galatasray lost that match, they’ve gotta do better from now on, otherwise it will be Herr Feldkamp’s head.

    Aalborg!!!
That’s a definite upset considering the preternatural luck Anderlecht usually has in Denmark (3-0 wins fairly consistently). Nice to see them stick a tiny bit to the Belgians. Now they need some wins (though they may be a bit hardpressed next game to get one).

Helsingborgs? Henrik Larssen. He’s very very good. Galatasaray put forth a good performance on the comeback though. Too bad for them it wasn’t enough.

Kobenhavn though? Disappointment. I was really expecting them to make a name early on. If they want to win this thing or at least make it to the next round, they need to aim for the net, not the crossbar.

Henrik Larsson: 36 years old and still scoring goals like always. What a legend.

    Linda: Larsson really is amazing.

Richard: You really did need it. Now its up to Spurs to prove me (and others) wrong and win more than one in their group.
